Bossier Parish Community College PTA Program Overview
Bossier Parish Community College (BPCC) offers a well-respected, fully accredited Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program in Northwest Louisiana. This two-part Associate of Applied Science degree consists of a flexible pre-PTA component—often completed in one year—and an intensive 13-month clinical phase that begins each summer. The curriculum covers foundational sciences, hands-on patient care techniques, and multiple clinical externships at local or regional facilities.
Admission is competitive: applicants must complete prerequisite courses with at least a 2.5 GPA and submit ACT WorkKeys scores, plus log 40 hours of observation across two physical therapy settings. Each spring, the top 20 candidates are selected for the clinical program based on academic performance, interviews, essays, and references.
The cost for the full PTA program—including tuition and all fees—is approximately $11,239 for the clinical year (2024–25), not including textbooks or living expenses. Students should also budget for professional licensure exam costs after graduation.
BPCC’s outcomes are impressive: recent cohorts boast a 100% pass rate on the national licensure exam and high job placement within a year—a testament to strong partnerships with area healthcare providers throughout Shreveport-Bossier City and beyond. Graduates find work quickly in hospitals, clinics, schools—even rural communities where demand is especially high.
Unique to BPCC is its flexibility during prerequisites; students from outside Bossier City can often complete much coursework locally before relocating for required labs/clinicals. For more details or personalized advising contact Ms Bryant or Ms Cox at BPCC directly.
