Colby Community College PTA Program Overview
Colby Community College in Colby, Kansas offers a well-respected Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program leading to an Associate of Applied Science degree. The program follows a “1 + 1” curriculum format: the first year is open to all students and focuses on pre-PTA core courses, while admission to the professional phase for the second year is selective and includes an interview process. Once admitted, students complete intensive lecture, lab work on campus, and hands-on clinical experiences at healthcare facilities throughout Kansas and neighboring states.
The entire PTA program can be completed in four semesters plus one summer session. After finishing coursework, students must also complete ten weeks of supervised clinical practice before graduation. Graduates are eligible to sit for state licensure exams; recent outcomes show a 100% ultimate board pass rate and a perfect graduation rate for the class of 2024.
Tuition at Colby Community College is known for being affordable compared to larger institutions—a significant benefit given rising education costs nationwide—and financial aid options are available.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects employment growth for PTAs at 19% from 2022–2032, much faster than average due largely to increasing demand from aging populations.
Unique advantages include small class sizes with dedicated faculty like Drs. Christopher Flieg and Meghann Corder, as well as strong local connections that help place graduates into jobs across rural western Kansas—where skilled PTAs are especially needed.
