Connecticut State Community College – Norwalk PTA Program Overview
The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program at Connecticut State Community College Norwalk offers a rigorous, hands-on pathway to a rewarding career in health care. This CAPTE-accredited associate degree program can be completed in just over two years and is designed for students who want to make a tangible difference in patients’ lives while working as part of an interdisciplinary team.
Students complete both general education requirements—such as anatomy & physiology, English composition, psychology—and specialized PTA courses covering kinesiology, therapeutic exercise, pathophysiology, and clinical skills. The curriculum blends on-campus learning with supervised clinical experiences at local hospitals and rehabilitation centers throughout Fairfield County and beyond.
Admission is selective; applicants must meet prerequisites including biology (with lab), statistics, English composition, and math placement. Up to 30 students are accepted per cohort each fall. Graduates receive an Associate of Science degree and are eligible to sit for the National Physical Therapy Exam required for licensure in Connecticut.
CT State Norwalk’s PTA graduates have achieved exceptional outcomes: recent cohorts posted 100% first-time pass rates on the NPTE exam and 100% employment within six months of graduation—a testament to strong faculty support led by Dr. Jennifer Bresnick. Tuition may be free for qualifying Connecticut residents under CT State’s Free Tuition initiative; otherwise, costs remain among the lowest statewide.
Located near vibrant downtown Norwalk—with easy access via I-95 or Metro-North—the campus provides extensive student resources plus opportunities for involvement through clubs or wellness services.
