Cuyahoga Community College PTA Program Overview
The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C), located at the Metropolitan Campus in downtown Cleveland, offers an Associate of Applied Science degree in Physical Therapist Assisting Technology. This rigorous, hands-on program prepares students for licensure as PTAs, who help patients recover mobility and function after illness or injury.
The PTA program typically requires about 65 credit hours to complete, with a curriculum that covers anatomy, therapeutic exercise, patient care techniques, and clinical education. Students begin each fall semester; up to 24 are admitted annually on a first-come basis once prerequisites—including PTAT 1000: Introduction to Physical Therapy Patient Care—are met. Notably, starting Fall 2025 applicants will no longer need HTEC 1610: Introduction to Pharmacology.
Tri-C’s PTA students benefit from state-of-the-art lab facilities and gain real-world experience through rotations at more than 75 clinical sites across Northeast Ohio—including top local hospitals. A unique aspect is Tri-C’s Preventative Care Center partnership with Cleveland State University doctoral students for collaborative learning.
Tuition remains affordable compared to other area colleges; financial aid is available for eligible students. The career outlook is strong regionally and nationally due to increasing demand in healthcare settings such as hospitals and outpatient clinics.
Cleveland’s diverse medical community provides excellent networking opportunities for graduates seeking employment locally or beyond upon passing the national licensure exam. Tri-C also offers transfer pathways if you wish to pursue further education in physical therapy or related fields.
