Idaho Consortium for Physical Therapist Assistant Education PTA Program Overview

The Idaho Consortium for Physical Therapist Assistant Education (ICPTAE) offers a unique, collaborative Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Physical Therapist Assisting. This accredited program brings together four respected Idaho institutions: College of Southern Idaho, College of Western Idaho, Lewis-Clark State College, and North Idaho College. Students complete general education courses at their home college before applying to the PTA program on their campus—LCSC students enroll through NIC.
Classes are delivered via Zoom or Interactive Video Conference technology, allowing for real-time instruction across the state while lab components take place locally at each school’s facilities. The curriculum blends classroom learning with hands-on labs and clinical experiences integrated throughout both years. Clinical placements are typically arranged within a student’s region; however, travel to other sites may be required to ensure broad exposure.

Spanning two years and approximately 72 credit hours (exact requirements may vary by institution), graduates are prepared for the National Physical Therapy Exam (NPTE) and licensure in Idaho or beyond. Tuition varies depending on your home college but remains comparatively affordable among allied health programs in the Northwest.

Career outlook is strong statewide due to growing demand in hospitals, outpatient clinics, skilled nursing facilities, and rural healthcare settings unique to Idaho’s diverse geography. ICPTAE stands out for its accessibility across multiple campuses and commitment to serving communities throughout urban centers like Boise as well as smaller towns from Coeur d’Alene down to Twin Falls.
