Madisonville Community College PTA Program Overview
Madisonville Community College’s Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program offers a strong pathway for those interested in healthcare careers, especially serving rural Western Kentucky. The PTA program awards an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree and is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). Students complete at least 60 credit hours over five semesters—two of general education and three focused on technical PTA courses—with clinical experiences at local facilities to ensure hands-on learning.
Admission is selective, with only 16 students accepted annually. Applicants must have completed prerequisite courses such as English, math, anatomy & physiology, psychology, and allied health basics with a C or better before applying. Additional requirements include ACT/SAT scores, interviews with physical therapy clinicians, recommendation letters (including one from a PT or PTA), and participation in a preadmission conference.
Costs are affordable: projected tuition and expenses for residents total around $9,600 for technical coursework; financial aid options like the Work Ready KY Scholarship can cover up to 60 credits for eligible Kentucky residents. Graduates consistently report high employment rates—100% from 2019-2023—and solid licensure pass rates.
Unique to MCC is its mission to serve rural communities through culturally sensitive care while preparing students for lifelong learning. Located in Madisonville—a hub between Evansville and Nashville—the college provides access to diverse clinical settings across western Kentucky’s hospitals and clinics. Currently new applications are paused but prospective students may sign up online for updates about future openings.
