Pima Medical Institute – Mesa PTA Program Overview

The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program at Pima Medical Institute’s Mesa campus is an on-campus, hands-on associate degree designed to prepare students for a rewarding healthcare career. The program takes approximately 18 months (75 weeks) to complete and consists of about 1,586 total hours. Graduates earn an Associate of Occupational Science degree and are eligible to sit for the National Physical Therapy Examination.
Students receive a comprehensive education covering anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, medical terminology, disease processes, therapeutic exercises, clinical skills, patient observation and reporting. Core courses include Introduction to Physical Therapy, Fundamentals of Disease, Rehabilitation techniques I & II, Therapeutic Exercise I & II as well as three separate Clinical Practicum experiences in local healthcare settings across the East Valley area.

Pima Medical Institute emphasizes real-world training through extensive clinical externships—giving students practical experience with patients under professional supervision.
Mesa’s vibrant healthcare community means plenty of opportunities for networking and job placement after graduation.

Tuition varies by year;
prospective students should consult PMI’s financial aid office or website for current costs and available scholarships or grants like Federal Pell Grants or student loans.

Career prospects are strong: according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics demand for PTAs is expected to grow much faster than average due to Arizona’s aging population and increasing need for rehabilitative care.

PMI also offers ongoing support via Career Services and pathways toward a Bachelor’s in PTA online if you wish to advance your career further—all right here in the heart of Mesa.
