Hutchinson Community College PTA Program Overview
The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program at Hutchinson Community College in Hutchinson, Kansas, offers a comprehensive and accredited pathway to an Associate of Applied Science degree. This 1+1 structured program allows students to complete general education courses at their own pace before entering the core PTA curriculum, which can be finished in about 12 months across fall, spring, and summer semesters.
Students receive hands-on instruction in applied anatomy and physiology, kinesiology, physical therapy principles and procedures, neurology and orthopedics basics, documentation skills, wound care, electrotherapy modalities, psychosocial aspects of healthcare—and more. The curriculum emphasizes both technical competence and compassionate patient care under the supervision of licensed physical therapists.
Clinical rotations are arranged with local healthcare facilities within commuting distance from Hutchinson—a unique advantage for area residents—ensuring real-world experience across settings like outpatient clinics, inpatient rehab centers, long-term care facilities, home health agencies and schools. Upon graduation from this CAPTE-accredited program (www.capteonline.org), students are eligible to sit for licensure exams required for practice as PTAs nationwide.
HutchCC’s PTA graduates enjoy strong job prospects due to rising demand for rehabilitation services regionally; tuition remains affordable compared to many four-year institutions.
Application windows run December 15th through May 15th annually for classes starting each August.
