Professional Skills Institute PTA Program Overview
The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program at Professional Skills Institute (PSI) in Maumee, Ohio, is a 72-week Associate of Applied Science degree designed to prepare students for rewarding careers in physical therapy. Accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE), the program combines daytime hybrid learning—mixing hands-on campus labs with flexible online coursework—with over 650 hours of clinical training at real physical therapy departments and clinics across northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan.
Students complete courses such as Structural Anatomy and Physiology, PTA Techniques, Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation, Neurologic Rehabilitation, Therapeutic Exercise, and more. PSI’s fully equipped labs mirror what graduates will encounter on the job. All instructors have at least a bachelor’s degree plus three years’ experience as PTs or PTAs.
Upon graduation, students are eligible to sit for the NPTE:PTA National Physical Therapy Exam® required for licensure in Ohio and Michigan. Career prospects remain strong locally due to Toledo’s growing healthcare sector and an aging population; most graduates find work quickly at area hospitals like ProMedica or Mercy Health Centers.
PSI stands out for its dedicated clinical coordinator who matches placements close to home whenever possible—a big advantage for local commuters. Financial aid is available for those who qualify. Tuition details can be found via PSI’s Net Price Calculator online or through their admissions office at 1-800-216-5770.
