Delta College PTA Program Overview
Delta College’s Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program, located in University Center, MI, is one of Michigan’s most established—second oldest in the state since its start in 1976. Students earn an Associate in Applied Science degree over five semesters as part of a close-knit cohort that begins each fall. The curriculum combines rigorous classroom instruction with hands-on clinical experiences at diverse local sites across mid-Michigan and the Great Lakes Bay Region.
To begin the PTA program, students first complete prerequisite courses before applying for “validation,” which qualifies them to enter the technical/clinical phase. Most classes are held on campus during daytime hours, but some special events may require evening or weekend attendance.
The program covers anatomy, patient mobility techniques, orthopedic and neuro-rehabilitation skills, orthotics/prosthetics basics, communication strategies with patients from all backgrounds—and much more. Delta’s PTA graduates boast outstanding outcomes: recent years have seen ultimate national licensure exam pass rates averaging 95%, and employment rates at 100% within six months post-graduation.
Tuition at Delta is less than half that of universities—a significant savings for students—and substantial financial aid and scholarships are available ($26 million awarded last year). Unique dual-degree options allow PTAs to pair their associate degree with General Management or Health Fitness Specialist credentials for expanded career flexibility.
Active involvement with professional associations like APTA-Michigan and community service through the student-run PTA Club further enhance learning while supporting local residents.
