Mohave Community College PTA Program Overview
Mohave Community College (MCC) offers a well-respected Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program at its Lake Havasu City campus, designed for students seeking a rewarding healthcare career in northwest Arizona. This is a selective admission, 5-semester Associate of Applied Science degree that prepares graduates to assist physical therapists in providing care to patients recovering from injury or illness.
The PTA curriculum includes both classroom instruction and hands-on clinical experience. Students complete core courses such as Anatomy & Physiology, Kinesiology, Therapeutic Exercise, Neurology for the PTA, and three intensive clinical education rotations—one four-week and two six-week full-time placements—in local hospitals or rehabilitation centers across Mohave County and beyond. The program admits about 20 students each fall; applicants need a minimum 2.7 GPA in prerequisite courses.
Tuition is affordable compared to many programs statewide; however, additional costs include CPR certification, background check/fingerprint clearance card, immunizations, transportation for clinicals, and health insurance. Financial aid options are available.
Graduates are eligible to sit for the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE), required for licensure in Arizona. MCC’s program boasts strong job placement rates thanks to high demand locally—Lake Havasu City has several major medical facilities—and regionally throughout rural Arizona communities where PTAs are especially needed.
Unique features include small class sizes with close faculty mentorship and access to outdoor recreation near the Colorado River—a plus if you enjoy boating or hiking while studying!
