Seminole State College-Gordon Cooper Technology Center PTA Program Overview
The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program at Seminole State College-Gordon Cooper Technology Center (SSC-GCTC) offers a comprehensive pathway for those seeking a rewarding healthcare career. This unique 1+1 program, accredited by CAPTE, blends academic coursework on the SSC campus in Seminole with hands-on technical training at Gordon Cooper Technology Center in Shawnee—just east of Oklahoma City.
To earn an Associate of Applied Science degree, students complete 69 credit hours: 32 hours of prerequisite courses (including English Composition, U.S. History, Psychology, Biology, Anatomy & Physiology), followed by 37 hours of focused PTA training. The technical portion runs Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm and includes classroom instruction, labs, and clinical experiences at local facilities such as SSM Health and PT Central.
Graduates are eligible to sit for state licensure exams; recent classes have achieved high employment rates within one year—averaging near or above 100%.
Tuition is competitive compared to other programs in Oklahoma and financial aid options are available.
The SSC-GCTC PTA program stands out due to its strong community ties and experienced faculty who bring specialized skills like manual therapy and pelvic floor rehabilitation.
With only twelve seats per cohort each fall semester—and close collaboration between campuses—the program ensures personalized attention while preparing graduates for immediate entry into the growing field of physical therapy assistance across central Oklahoma’s diverse healthcare settings.
