Howard Community College PTA Program Overview
The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program at Howard Community College (HCC) in Columbia, Maryland, offers a comprehensive pathway to becoming a licensed PTA. This full-time, daytime program leads to an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree and prepares graduates for the National Physical Therapy Examination required for licensure.
Located conveniently between Baltimore and Washington D.C., HCC’s main campus is easily accessible from major metropolitan areas. The PTA curriculum spans 67 credit hours and includes courses in therapeutic exercise, patient care techniques, soft tissue mobilization, electrotherapy modalities, anatomy & physiology, as well as four clinical education experiences that combine on-campus skills labs with real-world practice at local healthcare sites.
Students can expect additional costs beyond tuition—such as uniforms ($90), lab fees ($2,350), textbooks ($1,394), health screenings ($1,000), equipment kits ($48–70), and licensing exam fees ($485). For in-district students the total estimated cost is about $17,220; out-of-district students pay around $22,444.
