McLennan Community College PTA Program Overview
McLennan Community College (MCC) in Waco, Texas offers a comprehensive Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program designed to prepare students for rewarding healthcare careers. This two-year Associate of Applied Science degree combines classroom instruction, laboratory practice, and hands-on clinical experience. The curriculum covers essential theory and skills required to provide quality patient care under the supervision of licensed physical therapists.
The PTA program at MCC requires completion of approximately 66 credit hours, including both general academic prerequisites and specialized PTA courses. Applicants are encouraged to finish all five prerequisite courses before applying; grades from any retaken prerequisite will be averaged with the original grade for admission purposes. Additionally, prospective students must complete 40 hours of volunteer work in a physical therapy setting as part of their application—a process that can take several months due to facility requirements.
Upon graduation, students are eligible to sit for the Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners’ licensure exam. Recent outcomes show strong employment rates—91-100%—and ultimate licensure pass rates above 92%. Tuition is competitive compared to other programs statewide; financial aid and scholarships are available.
Unique features include small class sizes fostering personalized instruction and access to local medical facilities throughout Waco for clinical placements. MCC’s CAPE-accredited status ensures graduates meet high professional standards while serving Central Texas communities where demand for PTAs remains robust.
