Mineral Area College-Cape Girardeau Career & Technology Center PTA Program Overview
The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program at Mineral Area College, offered in partnership with Cape Girardeau Career & Technology Center (CTC), provides a direct pathway to an Associate of Applied Science Degree. This unique arrangement allows students to complete their core PTA coursework over 12 months at the Cape CTC campus, located conveniently on South Silver Springs Road in Cape Girardeau, Missouri—a city known for its strong healthcare community and regional medical centers.
Classes run daily from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., starting each August and including hands-on clinical rotations across local hospitals and outpatient clinics. The curriculum covers therapeutic modalities such as exercise, joint mobilization, neuromuscular re-education, and patient training with mobility devices like walkers or crutches. In addition to about 45 credits of technical courses taught by experienced faculty at CTC, students must also complete 24–26 credit hours of general education classes—available online or through any MAC location.
Graduates are eligible to sit for the national licensure exam required for PTAs in Missouri and beyond. With robust job growth expected both locally and nationally in physical therapy support roles—especially given Southeast Missouri’s aging population—the outlook is promising.
To apply, prospective students need prerequisite coursework, work references, TEAS test scores (minimum 60%), transcripts submission to both institutions, an interview with the selection committee—and final admission depends on passing a background check. The program qualifies for federal financial aid using school code 002486.
