St Louis Community College – Forest Park PTA Program Overview
The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program at St. Louis Community College – Forest Park is the oldest and one of the most respected PTA programs in the St. Louis area, established in 1984. This two-year Associate in Applied Science degree prepares students to work under licensed physical therapists, helping patients regain mobility and function after illness or injury.
Students complete 72-73 credit hours, including general education courses their first year and intensive core PTA coursework—including three full-time clinical rotations—in their second year. Clinical placements are arranged by STLCC at partner facilities throughout Missouri, Illinois, and neighboring states, giving students valuable hands-on experience.
Admission is selective; only 32 students are accepted each fall on a first-come basis once prerequisites are met. Tuition for district residents is $122 per credit hour—making this program more affordable than many private colleges—and total estimated costs for two years run about $9,288 for local students (not including books or supplies).
Graduates boast high outcomes: recent classes have had over a 91% graduation rate with employment rates at 100%. After earning their AAS degree, graduates can sit for the national licensure exam required to practice as PTAs in Missouri and most other states.
STLCC stands out not just academically but also through its student support services—from free tutoring to food pantries—reflecting its strong commitment to serving diverse learners from across St. Louis city’s vibrant communities.
