Broward College PTA Program Overview
The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program at Broward College offers an Associate of Science degree designed to prepare students for a rewarding healthcare career. Located in Coconut Creek, just north of Fort Lauderdale, the college’s North Campus is home to this competitive and highly regarded program. The PTA curriculum consists of rigorous science courses like Anatomy & Physiology I and II with labs, Medical Terminology, and general education requirements such as English Composition and Math. In total, students must complete approximately 74 credit hours.
Admission is selective—points are awarded based on grades in prerequisite courses, completion of general education credits before applying, and military service. Only 36 students are admitted each year for the May start date. Tuition costs are affordable compared to private institutions; Florida residents pay lower rates than out-of-state applicants.
Broward College’s PTA graduates consistently surpass state and national averages on licensure exams. Many secure jobs immediately after graduation thanks to strong clinical partnerships throughout South Florida—including hospitals, clinics, rehab centers, nursing homes, schools, and home health agencies.
The job outlook for PTAs is excellent: employment is projected to grow 19% from 2023-2033 according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics—with median annual wages over $64K locally. Unique resources include expert faculty connections within Broward County’s diverse community health networks and continuing education opportunities right at BC—a major advantage for those wishing to specialize or advance their careers further in fields like sports medicine or geriatrics.
