South University – West Palm Beach PTA Program Overview
The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program at South University – West Palm Beach offers an Associate of Science degree designed to prepare students for entry-level roles in physical therapy. The 110-credit curriculum blends general education with professional coursework, including anatomy and physiology, kinesiology, therapeutic exercise, and clinical externships. Most courses are held during evenings over a nine-quarter sequence—ideal for working adults or those balancing other commitments.
Applicants must complete prerequisite science courses within seven years prior to the program’s Professional Phase, maintain at least a 2.75 GPA (with no grade lower than ‘C’), submit TEAS scores (“proficient” preferred), and provide documentation of 20 hours observing physical therapy practice. Admission is competitive; repeated prerequisites can affect ranking.
Post-acceptance requirements include American Heart Association BLS CPR certification, proof of immunizations, a Level 2 background check (for Florida residents), and adherence to substance abuse screening policies. Students are responsible for costs related to these requirements.
Graduates will be eligible to sit for the National Physical Therapy Exam (NPTE); licensure is required for employment as a PTA in Florida and elsewhere. In recent years, South University – West Palm Beach reported high graduation (93.94%) and employment rates (100%), reflecting strong student outcomes.
Located near downtown West Palm Beach’s medical corridor—with proximity to major hospitals—the campus provides access to diverse clinical sites throughout South Florida’s vibrant healthcare community. This local connection enhances hands-on learning opportunities unique to the region.
