Florida Southwestern State College PTA Program Overview
Florida SouthWestern State College (FSW) offers an accredited Associate of Science in Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) at its Charlotte Campus in Punta Gorda, a growing area between Fort Myers and Sarasota. This full-time program spans 14 months across three and a half semesters, enrolling only 25 students annually each January to ensure personalized instruction.
The PTA curriculum consists of 74 credit hours: 15 general education credits, 15 program-specific prerequisites, and 44 core PTA credits. Students progress as a cohort through courses like anatomy & physiology, kinesiology, therapeutic exercise, neurological disorders, musculoskeletal pathology, clinical internships throughout Southwest Florida counties (Lee, Collier, Charlotte), and more. Classes run weekdays from approximately 8:30 am–5 pm.
Graduates are eligible for the National Physical Therapy Exam required for licensure in Florida. FSW’s PTA program is C.A.P.T.E.-accredited—an essential credential for employment—and emphasizes compassionate care with contemporary skills tailored to local community needs.
Career prospects are strong; PTAs are in high demand statewide across hospitals, outpatient clinics, rehab centers, home health agencies—even schools and long-term care facilities. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics and FSW data sheets (available on their website), starting salaries are competitive.
Tuition aligns with FSW’s $10K Degree Options initiative—making it one of the most affordable paths into this fast-growing field locally.
