Eastern Florida State College PTA Program Overview

Eastern Florida State College’s Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Associate in Science program, located on the Melbourne campus, is a highly respected and competitive pathway into the growing field of physical therapy. This CAPTE-accredited program requires 74 credit hours, blending scholarly classroom instruction with hands-on lab work using modern equipment. Students complete three six-week clinical practicums at healthcare sites throughout Brevard County, providing real-world experience with diverse patient populations—an advantage given the area’s large retiree community and active population.
The curriculum covers functional anatomy & kinesiology, therapeutic exercise, rehabilitation procedures (including prosthetics/orthotics), and advanced assessment techniques. Graduates are eligible to sit for the national PTA licensure exam required by Florida and most states.

EFSC admits just 16 students per year through a selective process emphasizing academic readiness and community engagement; attending panel discussions can even earn applicants extra points toward admission. Program costs are about $10,000 total—substantially lower than many other schools—and financial aid or scholarships may further reduce expenses.

Outcomes are excellent: recent graduation rates average over 90%, first-time licensure pass rates exceed 95%, and employment rates reach 100%. EFSC also offers pathways to further education like its Applied Health Science BAS degree for those interested in advancing within healthcare.

With small cohorts, strong local partnerships for clinical placements across Space Coast medical facilities, and a reputation for compassionate care training rooted in community needs, EFSC’s PTA program stands out as an outstanding option in Central Florida.
