The Praxis Institute PTA Program Overview
The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program at The Praxis Institute offers a focused path to an Associate in Science degree, available exclusively at the Miami campus. Accredited by CAPTE, this five-semester program prepares students for rewarding careers in physical therapy under the supervision of licensed therapists.
Students complete 73 credit hours covering essential topics such as anatomy and physiology, kinesiology, patient care procedures, documentation, therapeutic exercises, neuro-rehabilitation, and more. Coursework includes both classroom instruction and hands-on clinical experiences across three dedicated semesters. Many general education classes are offered online for added flexibility.
Admission is competitive; applicants need a high school diploma or equivalent, CPR certification, health insurance coverage, professional references, observation hours in a PT setting (15 hours), entrance exam scores meeting minimums in writing and math skills areas—and must pass an interview process. All candidates also undergo drug testing and a physical examination prior to enrollment.
Praxis graduates have shown strong employment rates post-graduation—100% over recent years—with NPTE board exam pass rates improving year over year (most recently averaging nearly 77%). According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, PTA jobs are projected to grow much faster than average through 2031 with median annual salaries around $61K.
Located near Florida International University on SW 107th Avenue in Miami’s vibrant community—close to public transit—the Praxis Institute provides personalized support including financial aid counseling. For tuition details or application guidance contact praxis@praxis.edu or call 305-642-4104.
