Northwest Florida State College PTA Program Overview

The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program at Northwest Florida State College, located in Niceville, FL, offers an Associate in Science (A.S.) degree designed to prepare students for rewarding careers as integral members of rehabilitation teams. The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE), ensuring a high standard of education and eligibility for licensure.
This intensive, selective-admissions program admits students once per year and requires both academic dedication and physical stamina. All courses are held at the Fort Walton Beach Campus, utilizing dedicated labs with professional clinical equipment and providing hands-on learning experiences. Students also participate in diverse local clinical rotations throughout Okaloosa County and surrounding areas—ideal given the region’s large population of retirees who benefit from rehabilitative care.

Coursework covers human movement sciences, therapeutic interventions, patient care skills, anatomy & physiology, pathology relevant to physical therapy practice, as well as general education requirements. In total, students complete approximately 74 credit hours over two years.

Graduates are prepared for employment across hospitals, outpatient clinics, nursing homes or sports medicine facilities. According to recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, PTA salaries average $64,510 nationally ($57,260 locally). The career outlook is excellent due to increasing demand driven by aging populations.

Tuition remains affordable compared to many programs statewide; financial aid resources are available through NWFSC’s student services office. For more information about admissions or upcoming info sessions—including virtual options—contact pta@nwfsc.edu or call (850) 863-6511.
